on August 02, 2011 at 12:00 PM Two of my wife's favorite stores to shop at — and thus two that I've learned to navigate quite well myself — are T.J.Maxx and Marshalls, "off-price" retailers who sell the same brand name and designer merchandise as mall and department stores for up to 60 percent less. How do they do it? According to the T.J. Maxx website, "Our buyers are on the hunt over 40 weeks a year for the hottest items of the season. So when a designer overproduces and department stores overbuy, we swoop in, negotiate the lowest possible price, and pass the savings on." Over the years we dated and in the years since we've been married, the size of my wife's wardrobe — and my own — can attest to the savings we've achieved at these stores, and there's nothing better for a savings conscious shopper than finding a great deal on a new item. Which is why when my wife and I go shopping we tend to hit a different one of several area T.J. Maxx or Marshalls stores each time to make sure we're looking through freshly stocked items.
Turns out, we don't have to worry so much about the stock at a particular store being picked over, as according to Laura McDowell, manager of media relations for T.J.Maxx and Marshalls, "every time you go to a store it's a new store." I contacted McDowell by email and phone to ask when the stores get new shipments, as those looking to get the best deals and the freshest items would certainly want to get in the mix as early as possible. A constant flow of merchandise T.J. Maxx has more than 900 stores around the country; Marshalls has more than 800. So while McDowell said each store typically receives three or four trucks a week — which equates to more than 10,000 new items each week per store — the schedule will be different for each one. Yet McDowell said employees are constantly putting new merchandise on the floor throughout the day. "Anytime someone goes in there is new merchandise," she said. "The stores are never picked over because of this constant flow of merchandise."
McDowell said that because of the flexible way they buy, there is no exact answer as to the number of types of items that come in each new shipment, though they won't usually "buy deep into the same skew," she said. "You won't find a lot of the same item," McDowell said. "For example, say cashmere sweaters are the must-have item. We'll have all different styles and sizes by a variety of designers rather than one or two styles in depth by the same designer." So you can't necessarily plan your trip ahead to find the best selection of new or particular items, but you don't have to: The items are constantly refreshed, and in a semi-random fashion. So there's no set day or time to go to find the latest shipment of designer purses or shoes, for instance. I asked McDowell if it's possible to find out in advance what might be appearing on shelves at T.J. Maxx or Marshalls in the near future. Yes and no, she said. ") for images of upcoming seasonal photography and trends."
She also recommended checking out fashion magazines, as "if it's a popular trend, we'll have it." If you really want an inside scoop on the best time to shop, McDowell suggested getting to know your local store's manager, who should know all the details about when new products are arriving and when they'll end up on the sales floor. As for what to expect in stores this fall, "We know teal and burgundy are hot colors for fall," McDowell said. home decor superstore chattanooga"Faux fur, suede and leather are also popular trends. tj maxx home goods flower moundYou'll be sure to find plenty of items (tops, shoes, skirts, jackets, handbags) in those trends."home decor liquidators columbia south carolina
