Do you have a special set of plates or china specifically for Thanksgiving dinner?  I do not own any at all. 🙁 Last year’s table here had my mother’s green salad plates mixed with our plain white dinnerware.  The year before had this even more simple table setting out on the porch: The dining room had a variation of the same elements. Every year I have been telling myself that I should buy a few pieces of Thanksgiving china…at least a set of salad plates.  And because my tastes seem to run in a less patterned direction, I almost purchased these last year. I thought they would fit in well with the white dinnerware here.
But then I saw Holly’s table and could have kicked myself for not buying those West Elm plates with lettering on them.  I had contemplated them before I saw her post, and they would have fit in perfectly. But of course I could not make myself commit to them, and now there are no more to be found anywhere. I think the reason I couldn’t make myself purchase them is because I have loved these for a very long time… Don’t they look pretty in this tablesetting? But then I wonder if I wouldn’t find more uses for it if we had the Spode Woodland (without the turkey.) Or…should I go even less patterned with Delamere that has simply the outer design on it? So many choices!  I have also considered a “non-animal” one as well – Johnson Brothers’ Friendly Village. It could actually be used from November through January. My mother owns a number of pieces of the Myott brown transferware turkey plates.  It might be wise for me to just purchase some of that pattern so that we can combine our collections when needed.
